The Paolina Beach on the Island of Elba

One of the most famous beaches on the Island of Elba, it takes its name from Emperor Napoleon's sister.

The Paolina Beach on the western side of Elba Island can be reached from the road connecting the village of Procchio to the town of Marciana Marina. On the right, you will find a well-marked sign indicating "Spiaggia della Paolina."

A small shaded path through a cork oak forest will lead you directly to the sea.

The beach of Paolina is named after the rock that sits just a few tens of meters from the shore. It is said that this rock was a favorite spot for Paolina Bonaparte, sister of the famous Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who enjoyed swimming from the beach to the islet where she liked to sunbathe naked.

Paolina Beach is composed of small pebbles mixed with more or less fine gravel. It is quite narrow and about 100 meters long. A portion of the beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, and you can also rent canoes and kayaks to explore the nearby beaches. The beach is mostly sunny in the morning and early afternoon, while the dense vegetation behind it casts shadows much earlier than sunset in the latter part of the day.

Parking spaces for Paolina Beach are available only along the main road in certain sections where the road widens, allowing you to park without causing traffic disruptions.

A very charming and panoramic excursion is to pedal along the coast from Procchio Beach all the way to the Isolotto of Paolina Beach. The clear turquoise water and the stunning seabed are definitely worth the effort.
